Godly

Just last night my wife’s shoulder was healed after receiving prayer during a Bible study at our home. She had been in pain for several of days before receiving healing. I have lost count over the years of all the beautiful people I have witnessed...

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth,”
(Acts 1:8).

God has called all of us to live a life that is a witness to the world of His existence and love for humanity. It is the Holy Spirit’s presence and display of power in and through a believer's life that makes that person an effective witness for Christ. It is impossible for a person to reach their full potential in God without the power of the Holy Spirit.

I have recently been reading through the book of Acts, or as I like to call it, the book of “action.” In Acts, you will discover that the ministry of Christ’s disciples did not begin until they were filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4). It was the Holy Spirit that gave them the power to be witnesses of Jesus. After being filled with the Holy Spirit, these 120 believers went everywhere sharing the gospel of Jesus with everyone. They didn’t only have the boldness to share the gospel in word but had the faith to demonstrate the message they preached by healing the sick, casting out demons, and raising the dead back to life again. These ordinary people were empowered to do extraordinary things by the Holy Spirit.

Over the years, I’ve heard people say things like, “the gifts of the Spirit died out with the first apostles,” or “God doesn’t heal people today like He did then.” The truth is Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever ( Hebrews 13:8).  We live under the same dispensation of Grace as the early church we read about in the New Testament. We serve the same Lord, we are empowered by the same Holy Spirit, and have been given the same responsibility to go out and make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). Just last night my wife’s shoulder was healed after receiving prayer during a Bible study at our home. She had been in pain for several of days before receiving healing. I have lost count over the years of all the beautiful people I have witnessed Jesus heal through His church.

God desires for us to have more than just a form of Godliness. He wants us to have the power of the Holy Spirit that will actually make us Godly or “God-like.” I believe what we call “Godliness” most of the time are just traditions of men that lack the love and power of God to make a difference in the lives of others (2 Timothy 3:5). God wants to live life with you. He wants to put His super on your natural. He wants to reveal His goodness to others through your life. Will you accept His call. Will you receive His love and allow Him to love others through you? Place your faith in Jesus. Ask God to fill you with His Spirit. Dedicate your life to studying the Bible, prayer, and worship. Your life can and will be a witness to the world of Jesus and his love for them. Be Godly! Live Godly!
