We are searching for our significance on the earth. We change our hair color, we change our style of clothes and so much more all in hope of being...
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven,” (Matthew 5:16).
The gospel of Jesus Christ is meant to be lived out in our lives. What testifies of God’s existence and goodness is not so much what we say but what we do. God is seen and experienced through our actions. Faith without works is dead. Our works reveal what we truly believe and whom we believe in. In Matthew 5, Jesus uncovers His follower’s true identity. “You are the light of the world,” (Matthew 5:14).
We are light that cannot be hidden. Have you ever thought of yourself that way? So many of us do our best to stand out from the crowd because we want someone to notice us. We are searching for our significance on the earth. We change our hair color, we change our style of clothes and so much more all in hope of being “different.” My friend, search no longer for your value. Your significance is found in Jesus revealing Himself to others through your life.
God designed our lives to be the lampstand for the light, who is Jesus, to shine from. I’m a huge fan of floor lamps. I can walk into a store and spend a whole hour just looking at lamps. There is such a variety of floor lamps now days. They make some that look like people. They make some that look like trees. The creativity that goes into the making of these lamps is amazing. Out of all the beautiful varieties of floor lamps that exist; all of them would be irrelevant and completely insignificant without a light bulb. It is the lamp stand’s ability to carry the light bulb that gives the lamp stand its value.
We were all designed to carry Jesus, the light of the world, everywhere we go. We are the light of the world because The Light of the world lives in us and shines through us. Christ in us is our hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). Christ in us is what gives our lives meaning. Don’t hide the light. Our lives are absolutely meaningless without Jesus. It’s not our careers, titles, money, popularity, or fame that gives our lives meaning. It’s simply knowing Jesus and making Him known that gives us our significance.
Spend time every day with Jesus. Study the Bible, talk with God, spend time singing to God. The more you become acquainted with the Light the more you will become like the Light. The Light in you will become so bright that people will not be able to see you anymore but only Jesus (Colossians 3:3). There are people everywhere looking for the Light. Take Him to them and enjoy your significance on the earth!
