The cool thing about God is, He is Love. Because He is Love He never stops giving. Another thing I have learned about God is that He will never allow anyone to out give Him. When a person gives anything to God He always blesses the gift, multiplies the gift and returns it to the giver in a much greater measure. Never fear of losing out with...
“And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, “Why was this fragrant oil wasted? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they criticized her sharply, (Mark 14:3-5).”
Have you ever been criticized for giving too much to Jesus? In this passage, this lady was criticized for her offering. Some of Jesus’ disciples could not understand why this lady would pour costly oil out on Jesus’ head. This fragrant oil was worth a year’s wage. So that was a year’s worth of wages given to God as an offering all at once. Think about that.
I believe worship to God can be defined as obedience to God. What would make this lady give this large of an offering in this kind of way. Instead of presenting the flask of oil to Jesus for Him to possibly use in the ministry to others, she breaks it open and pours all of it on His head. How did she know to do that? I believe her gift to Jesus in that unique way was an act of obedience. I believe God spoke to her about pouring the oil she had on Jesus’ head.
What the disciples didn’t know and what she probably wasn’t aware of herself is that Jesus needed to be anointed with that fragrant oil for His burial which he explained to His disciples afterwards (Mark 14:8). Jesus had a large need and God supplied His need through this lady’s giving. This is why it is so important for all of us to be led by the Holy Spirit every day. There are needs all around us that God wants to supply through our giving. God wants to include us in His work which is loving on people. If we are going to get involved with God’s work it requires us to be willing and obedient to His voice.
Extreme giving requires extreme faith. This lady had already experienced the love of God through Jesus. God’s love drove out any fear that may have caused her to hold back from giving. Because she had been forgiven much, it freed her up to love much and love is always expressed through giving (Luke 7:47).
The cool thing about God is, He is Love. Because He is Love He never stops giving. Another thing I have learned about God is that He will never allow anyone to out give Him. When a person gives anything to God He always blesses the gift, multiplies the gift and returns it to the giver in a much greater measure. Never fear of losing out with God. He loves you. Place your faith in Him and trust His love for you. The only life worth living is a life that has made Jesus Lord, a life that is fearless, one that has given it all to Jesus!
